Hello Hello!

I hope everybody had a happy and peaceful Thanksgiving. And yes, even you, my adorably incompetent Detroit Lions. I’ve never been a big Thanksgiving person, partially because the traditional menu bores me. For the record, Spanish-style garlic shrimp, roasted kohlrabi, kale salad with pepitas and dark chocolate were on the menu here. And it was sooo good.

I didn’t want to be part of the super-annoying Black Friday email in-box bombing by corporate America, so we will keep this short and sweet. (Seriously, Macy’s – 5 emails since 6 a.m. today? NOT BUYING ANYTHING. Go away.)

Next few weeks in Open Court land will be fun. Hella fun.

You gave huge love to Molly Yanity and her piece on Tuesday about social media and fandom. Molly will be back next Tuesday for an encore, this time on the 411 on the USWNT. Or in English, what is up with the U.S. Women’s National soccer team. The women are in Sydney, playing some friendlies against the Aussies. There is a sea change coming, thanks to retiring legends (CARLI LLOYD, we love you!) others that may go soon (MEGAN RAPINOE, we love you!) and the crop of amazing talent that is ready to slay (ROSE LAVELLE appreciation society, and finger hearts to Catarino Mercario and Trinity Rodman too).

Then, next Friday, you will get the lowdown on what probably will be the uber-highlight of my year: seeing BTS, live in concert, from SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. I have huge expectations for this, as the guys are on top of their game (another Grammy nomination!), bring a massive fireworks show to close the concert, and yeah, they’ve been kind of going crazy in LA over the past week.

Just a random street corner in LA: J-Hope, Jimin, Suga, Jin, RM, V and Jungkook of the K-Pop band BTS are seen filming for the The Late Late Show With James Corden on November 23, 2021 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Bellocqimages/Bauer-Griffin/GC Images)

Look for me to pop in at @joannecgerstner (My official FB page - follow me!) from time to time next week with some Facebook Lives, and maybe some surprises. And yes, because I am older and tiny bit more sensible, I am packing concert-style earplugs. BTS concerts are loud, loud, loud affairs – both from the music and screaming fans – and I would love to be able to hear again before Christmas. (Small backstory, a dear friend got last minute Van Halen tickets – my preferred line-up of Van Hagar, thank you very much – and we were like third row. It was a great concert. Sadly, I was walking around deaf for four days. Arrgh.)

In the coming weeks after BTS, we will have a fantastic interview with sports writer Michelle Smith – we went deep, y’all - on the state of sports media, changing careers and where we are with women’s hoops.

So have a good weekend, delete those stupid Black Friday sales emails, and we will see you on Tuesday.

Golfer Greg Norman isn't sorry. So stop asking.

Norman's lead involvement in the new Saudi-backed men's golf tour, with a healthy boost from Phil Mickelson, reveals a lot about their character. Greed is winning. Human rights, meh.

I've been thinking about WNBA superstar Brittney Griner. Are you?

One of the greatest basketball players on the planet is being held by the Russians. For a likely sham reason. This is super not good.
